A short while ago, we wrote about how Wialon controls the cement delivery for the global leader in the production of construction materials – LafargeHolcim. Today, we will focus on how Wialon makes the drivers of this Swiss giant stick to the work-rest schedule in Azerbaijan. Without a tachograph!

The problem

The representatives of LafargeHolcim addressed our partner A+A Security. The client was looking for the solution to track the duration of truck drivers’ work and rest periods while they are delivering construction materials in different regions of Azerbaijan.

Observing this schedule is of critical importance: if the driver is tired but keeps driving, the risk of getting into an accident increases dramatically which means putting people’s lives and health at stake and causing financial losses for the enterprise.

The solution

To prevent all these unintended consequences and comply with the Swiss standards, our partner developed a Wialon-based application. It tracks drivers' working hours. Any violations are recorded and displayed in reports. But let’s dive into details.

Hardware used

A+A Security selected Ruptela FM Eco4. The tracker has the option of driver identification that was necessary for this project. The device is easily configured through Wialon (very handy when you have to set up 169 devices). It also features IP67 protection which means it can be used in harsh – humid and dusty – environment. The function works just fine in the country where the climate varies from dry to humid and from temperate to subtropical.

Each driver is assigned to a vehicle. When he starts the shift, he uses the iButton option to identify himself in the system. At the end of the shift, he does it again letting know that he is finished. Thus, the system knows the actual duration of the shift. The same process is applied when marking a break after a period of continuous driving.

Software

On the software part, with the help of Wialon SDK, the partner created a web-application where the client can build daily and weekly reports on working hours by drivers/vehicles. The data is presented in an easy-to-understand form.

The app has 5 sections: Daily violations, Weekly violations, E-mails, Configurations, and Driver Score Сard.

  • In the first two sections, you can build a report showing the drivers’ violations per day/week;

The problem

  • In "E-mails" section, you manage e-mail addresses that get reports;
  • In "Configurations" section, you set up the standards that the driver should stick to (for example, the maximum driving period or minimum rest period)

The problem

  • "Driver Score Card" section shows the statistics on violations by each driver or group of drivers.

The problem

The results

The solution by A+A Security has successfully managed all the client’s expectations:

  • The violations are automatically recorded and analyzed;
  • The time spent on report analysis reduced (previously, the dispatchers had to look through daily reports to find violations while now they receive weekly reports and can easily customize all the settings);
  • The risk for the driver to get into an accident due to accumulated fatigue was brought down to a minimum;
  • The dispatcher receives a daily violations report right the next day which helps to keep the finger on the pulse of the events.

Check out one more project implemented by A+A Security. At that time, the company developed an electronic cargo tracking system for the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan to help the organization cope with smuggling and customs duty evasion.
