NimBus is the solution popular with partners from Sri Lanka and India to Colombia. This is another story of how it makes the lives of thousands of people easier and increases business performance. Find the details on the employee transportation project below.

Problem

SIBUR Tobolsk, a huge plant processing crude hydrocarbons and producing polymers, is located in a Siberian city Tobolsk. It is a part of SIBUR, the largest petrochemical company in Russia.

Many of its several thousand workers are out-of-towners. They don’t know the city well (especially just after arrival), and it’s difficult for them to navigate the city streets. What can be more stressful than being late on your first day? Besides, a lot of people come to the Tobolsk enterprises for business trips and are not familiar with the city logistics.

To avoid nerve-racking situations and make the working conditions as comfortable as possible for everyone, SIBUR management decided to create a tool helping to organize centralized transportation of people to their workplaces.

PK SKT, a Gurtam partner of 8 years with certified specialists on board, developed a suitable solution. The company specializes in vehicles, custom machinery, ships, and rolling stocks monitoring, as well as logistics.

Solution

PK SKT offered using NimBus, the Gurtam’s niche solution for public transportation tracking.

Together with SIBUR, PK SKT specialists built up 300 routes, set up schedules and stops, trained the dispatchers to edit routes and rides and reassign units if necessary. Now, roadworks or bus breakdowns could affect neither the quality of the services provided to passengers nor the monitoring quality significant for the company itself.

But what about passengers? How do they know where the bus is at the moment and when it arrives at the particular stop? For this, they can scan the QR code provided by the company, get the Locator link, click on it, and see the bus location on the map in real time.

Difficulties

There are hardly any projects that can do without difficulties, including the telematics ones. In our case, the approved schedule sometimes deviated from the real-life situation. So, the schedules were edited based on the data obtained after the routes were finished.

Results

The project had been tested for over 6 months. As of now, more than a thousand employees of SIBUR Tobolsk can instantly find out the bus location thanks to NimBus and Locator. At the close of the test period the client got:

  • staff transportation by buses to or from work according to the schedule. The passengers just need to be at the nearest stop on time;
  • real-time monitoring of bus movements with Locator – saves a lot of time;
  • decrease in the number of late arrivals and discipline improvement which changes the overall enterprise efficiency for the better;
  • optimized schedules for corporate transport;
  • creating and sustaining a positive image of the company which cares about its employees.

At the moment, the project is considered successful. It was implemented for SIBUR enterprises in Tomsk, Nizhnevartovsk, and ten other locations in Russia.

PK SKT promptly processed many passenger requests, and some of them were later included in the updated NimBus functionality:

  • new map layers for Locator;
  • improvement of the app logic when the bus skips the last stop (shuttle buses don’t go to the final stop if all passengers had already got off as opposed to regular buses);
  • adding more symbols to the route number;
  • sorting the routes according to the time of arrival at the stop: the ones to arrive earlier are displayed first.

We want to thank our partner for this feedback, as NimBus became more user-friendly not only for SIBUR employees, but for all its users.
