In February 2023, the unit counter on Wialon hit the 3,500,000 milestone. It means that Wialon partners continue to provide value to businesses every day. Wialon fleet management solution is the world leader when it comes to the number of connected vehicles and other assets, and we would like to thank our partner community for making it possible.

The previous milestone of 3,000,000 units was reached a year and a half ago. Since then a lot has happened. We released Wialon Local 2204, added new functionality to the video module and updated the in-built Routing tool. A short while ago, we finally met after the lockdown at Telematics Vilnius 2022 and celebrated Gurtam 20th anniversary. However, over this period, Gurtam also took a decision to quit the market in Russia. In these circumstances, we restructured our operations, and delved into work even harder. So now we are celebrating a new peak that indicates us moving in the right direction.

The 3,500,000th unit was connected by Geoloc Conseils, a telematics service provider operating mainly in France and West Africa. The company was founded in 2012 and started working with Walon in 2016. At first, Geoloc Conseils focused more on GPS tracking, but now they prioritize fuel anti-theft projects. In this interview, Francois Traoré, Geoloc Conseils Managing Director, told us about the long-term partnership with Wialon, the milestone project, and ideas he wants to implement with the help of telematics.

Dear Francois, first of all, let us congratulate you on becoming a milestone partner! Was it a surprise for you?

Thank you! Yes, it is something we were not expecting, but it was a nice surprise. Getting this status, even if there is a big luck factor in it, is a reward for daily work, and it reinforces membership in the partner community.

Do you remember when and where you heard about the Wialon platform for the first time? What convinced you to start working with us?

In 2016, me and my colleagues were looking for a fleet management system that could track fuel consumption and calculate engine hours. We started searching the internet and found Wialon. After a test period, I was convinced that this is the solution we were looking for. The Wialon platform was simple and intuitive to use. It also had different types of engine, fuel, temperature, weight sensors, and convenient report settings.

What impact does Wialon have on your business processes?

With Wialon, we have expanded the range of services we can offer our clients. For example, now we can work with CAN bus data, identify drivers with Bluetooth tags, use smart padlocks and so on. We could not do this before.

What projects are you currently working on? And what was the first project launched on Wialon?

We mainly help meet the needs of transport, construction, delivery and service companies (cleaning, ambulance, funeral). The first major project with Wialon that also launched us into the African market was about fuel monitoring and fleet management for a road construction company. There was a huge number of trucks and construction machinery to be controlled. And we did it! The results were very positive even though it was our first project.

What was the project that helped you connect the 3,500,000th unit on Wialon?

The project was in Ivory Coast. Our client operating an ambulance vehicle fleet was looking for an effective solution for its management. According to the request, we integrated the GPS tracking system for his fleet and set up fuel control for it using data from CAN bus, all through Teltonika FMB140.

What trends and challenges in the telematics and IoT industry can you highlight in your market?

I would say the main challenge is the competition with car manufacturers offering original equipment geolocation (OEMs). The trends we are following closely and will likely need to adjust to are electrification of vehicle fleets with the abandonment of conventional fuel, and the demand for indoor geolocation.

Are there any new ideas and approaches you want to implement in your work?

We believe that it is possible to integrate indoor geolocation with the Bluetooth technology, mesh network, plans of buildings or places and do these all on the Wialon platform. It could replace the current cartography. Besides, there are a lot of ideas on how to use telematics in beekeeping and in storage or equipment tracking inside buildings.
