Gurtam is showing off 2.7 million of all kinds of monitoring units all over the world. These are mainly liquid fuel vehicles of commercial enterprises, but there are also various stationary units like generators or sensors in certain buildings, as well as all kinds of pets, and other assets. And we are convinced that the day will soon come when we will celebrate the 3,000,000 units monitored with our products.

Today, we are thrilled to show you the recent highlights of flespi growth. Here’s what Aliaksei Shchurko, who oversees the evolution of flespi, says on this matter:

“Last year, flespi reached the originally planned functionality. At the present stage, we focus on doing a better job with the current client’s pains, making the product even more comprehensive but straightforward so that typical tasks can be arranged with a couple of mouse clicks (or API requests). Of course, we have a strong intention to continue acting as experts in telematics and respond directly and timely to our clients’ requests.

I will not dare to predict how and where we will be at the end of 2021, but the way we chose is a proven one. So, we do believe in the best and plan to work with even more passion and dedication inspired by the recent successes!”

In that regard, right now, let’s recall a couple of the recent milestones from the flespi lifecycle.

COVID-19 IoT Alliance project

COVID-19 IoT Alliance project

Can you recall the actions you made in the COVID-19 early days? Making good decisions in bad times is all ours. That’s why in 2020, flespi joined forces to assist national governments, municipalities, NGOs, and other enthusiastic groups all over the globe to limit the spread of the coronavirus by developing effective complex technological solutions. This initiative is known as COVID-19 IoT Alliance.

In terms of this forehanded initiative, flespi worked with Teltonika to support the Singaporian project to monitor the COVID-19 infected people throughout quarantine facilities. Ascent Solutions from Singapore came up with a winning and easy-to-implement solution. It is based on BLE bracelets worn on the patient's wrists, Teltonika FMU130 telematics devices that collect and transmit ID and location information from bracelets, and flespi to process incoming data before sending it to a custom-developed front-end interface. The entire solution implementation has taken just up to three weeks; that is a record speed.

flespi device plugins

flespi device plugins

Earlier in that tough 2020, the flespi team achieved the point where, according to their product concept, the platform is stable in its functionality and complete in its logic. And yet, they moved on and decided not only to optimize but also develop in-demand new features. However, there was no intention to add a bunch of features to maintain this natural simplicity flespi provides. That's the reason the flespi team was proud to introduce the new plugins mechanism

Having started with device plugins, later on, the flespi team plans to enhance other types of flespi units with plugins as well. Device plugins are the dawn of a new era of custom extensions in flespi.

Howen AI Thermal Camera and flespi

Video monitoring is tending to be applied everywhere. With the COVID-19 and the need to comply with quarantine and a mask and body temperature regime caused by the pandemic, video monitoring solutions are even more demanded. It’s one more reason why cameras with artificial intelligence functionality are so popular among the major companies that can afford them. These devices are widely used to recognize faces and then match the recognized face with an identifier and associated personal data. But what does flespi have to do with all of this?

One of the flespi clients implemented the platform to obtain the employee data (body temperature, whether they are wearing a mask or not, and a lot of AI-based data) from the Howen Hero camera. After that, the data is sent to the client’s customer-facing front-end application.

Tracking the yacht racing competitions

Tracking the yacht racing competitions

Let's briefly cover one of the most attention-grabbing projects with flespi incorporated – the yacht racing project by Geoservice, the Wialon partner. The project allowed the client's website to be enhanced with a live map showing the competing boats' location, routes and speed, up-to-date weather information, etc.

What's the role of flespi here? The Geoservice team designed and developed the client-facing part of the solution themselves using our backend platform. Powerful REST API, straightforward equipment setup, continuous aggregation of messages from various types of devices allowed the client to overcome the yacht racing nagging problems caused by unpredictable weather conditions. The details of this notable cooperation are available on the flespi website.

MQTT Tiles integrated into the flespi panel

We made another step forward in flespi development as a platform and made our MQTT-based tools (MQTT TIles and MQTT Board) available for use directly from each item’s configuration. This feature should be especially valuable for anyone learning MQTT as an alternative to traditional data consumption via the REST API.

99.9% uptime guarantee

99.9% uptime guarantee

In 2020, flespi demonstrated 99.978% uptime in the European data centers, and 100% uptime was recorded in the Eastern European data centers. What's more, for some months, this rate was estimated at 100% also for Europe. We can talk as much as we can about this record uptime rate, but see our proof that says more than words ever could. And in this, we won't be boasting, as this achievement is the result of dedicated work and valuable contributions of the flespi team members.

Some inspiring words in conclusion

As you may see from the events featured above, the flespi team has contributed significantly to the overall Gurtam success. All that is especially appreciated in terms of the severe conditions the whole world experienced last year. And the best thing is they are committed to pursuing their way ahead.

It would be an absolute crime not to mention that the success became possible to achieve thanks to the partners who incorporate the flespi solution into their projects.

Got inspired and thinking about implementing your own unique telematics solution? Join the flespi ecosystem to streamline your next big project. You are always welcomed!
