New devices for the fuel consumption monitoring from Mechatronics

28 October, 2020

Monitoring the fuel consumption of passenger cars is not an easy task if it's not possible to read fuel consumption data from the CAN bus. Installing fuel level sensors in the tank of a passenger car can be difficult or not always possible, and the volume measurement error is higher due to the asymmetric and low shape of the tank. It is possible to connect the monitoring terminal directly to the standard (float) sensor of the car, but it has an additional drawback: the readings depend on the voltage of the onboard network. Starting the engine or changing its rpm affects the fuel level reading.

The Eurosens Dock Converter reads the signal of the standard fuel level sensor and the on-board voltage, adjusts the fuel level values based on the current value of the onboard network voltage, averages the data and transmits the result via the RS485 interface to the monitoring terminal. Thus, it can be called an "improver" of the readings of the standard resistive fuel level sensor of the car.

Can it be used on trucks?

No, it can't. Eurosens Dock is meant for vehicles with a rated 12 V on-board power supply. As for trucks, we recommend paying attention to Eurosens Dash.

Dash EN

This device controls the fuel gauge on the dashboard. You can install a high-precision fuel level sensor instead of existing sensor and avoid drilling of the tank. In order for the dashboard fuel gauge to continue working you can use Eurosens Dash. It will receive data on the current fuel level in the tank from the accurate fuel sensor using the RS485 interface and control the dashboard gauge.  Eurosens Dash can be configured for various indicator models using a laptop.
